How to Fight Those Mysterious Carpet Spots

New Scotchgard Deep Down Protection Shields Against Stains

(ARA) - If you think you're seeing spots appear before your eyes as you gaze at your carpet, sometimes you are. "It's not unusual to clean up a spill and then days later discover a spot has developed," says Denise Loxton, of the Scotchgard Service Center. Loxton explains that each time you clean the spot and the surface dries, whatever liquid fell below the surface can wick up from the bottom, pulled by the dry fiber on top. "Many people call the center and mention this 'mysterious' happening."

A new improvement in carpet protection pioneered by 3M could be your latest weapon in the case against reoccurring spots. Specially created for nylon carpet, the advanced, deep down Scotchgard protection now shields the entire fiber, from top to bottom, all the way to the carpet backing. The improved coverage means spills clean up more easily and, as a result, are less likely to turn into stains. In addition, soil resistance is improved all the way down the fiber as well. This keeps dirt from getting inside the fiber, so it vacuums up more easily, helping to keep carpet looking good longer.

The deep down Scotchgard protection is a result of a patented application process. Most carpet protection for nylon is applied in a two-step process: first the stain blocker, which is necessary for nylon carpet, and then the soil protection. 3M engineered a way for both treatments to be co-applied and in such a way that the protection goes from surface to backing and heat cures it to the fiber to seal it deep into the tuft. It is the most thorough treatment available today.

Carpets with the deep down Scotchgard protection are now available at Abbey and Carpet One dealers. At Abbey, look for the collection called "The Best." At Carpet One, Scotchgard is featured on many carpets in the "Lee's for Living" line.
