So
you don't have a clue what to buy Mum for Mother's Day or
your best friend for their birthday, OR a gift for someone
special?
Many
people are absolutely stumped when buying gifts for others
for a variety of reasons. Maybe you don't know what interests
people you are buying for have.
Maybe
you think your tastes are not the same as theirs, maybe you
don't know what is appropriate or you want to give something
that will really say what you want to convey.
Luckily
with the advent of Internet shopping gift buying nightmares
can be made manageable. You can now shop for virtually ANYTHING
from ANYWHERE in the world!
It's
quite exciting when you think about it :) (Can you tell I
simply LOVE shopping?? )
Firstly
always remember it IS the thought that counts! Not the cost
of the gift.
A
small thoughtfully chosen gift can mean so much more than
flashy expensive items.
Packaging
is also important and can make as big an impression as the
gift itself. It says so much about the trouble you have gone
to make something beautiful for some one special. So take
advantage of any free gift wrapping services, but make sure
they do an impressive job!
The
art of surprise, works wonders at making a gift special.
You can surprise people in a number of ways....
-
By
sending something when it isn't expected
-
sending
a gift from somewhere unexpected (eg from another country)
-
sending
something a little different (again sending a gift from
another country works well)
-
a
gift sent via a delivery service always surprises and
delights.
"When
the box came I heard her say what in the world is coming from
New Zealand...I didn't order anything...Then she opened it.
She said nobody has ever went to this much trouble to do something
nice for her. Sure made my day too She is such a good friend."
Something with a difference, shows that you have spent time
looking and choosing a gift.
Instead
of your run-of-the-mill gift of music, books or the perennial
socks!! Browse through Internet stores to find something a
little different and unusual. Perhaps something ethnic or
creative, novel.
Sometimes
you can say with a gift what you are not able to put into
words. A gift that reflects how you feel about someone or
reflects your wishes for that person always makes a touching
and memorable gift.
Perhaps
something you have made - maybe a collage of photos/brochures
from a special occasion or a collection of bits'n'pieces from
somewhere special eg. stones/shells/driftwood from a holiday
place an old school or workplace...
If
you know a person's hobbies or collections it always helps.
It also says to the person you are buying a gift for that
you have taken the trouble to know their interests.
If
you are still having trouble deciding on the perfect gift
e-mail the web-store, they are usually happy to help out.

I am a co-owner of a Dunedin based company with an international
business operation, an upmarket Internet Gift and craft site.
JoFi New Zealand exclusively market and export handmade products
and NZ made Kiwiana. The site provides a personal one-to-one
Internet shopping experience with a focus on excellent customer
service and unique products.
As
Internet retailers (or e-tailers) myself and business partner
are the new generation of exporters for New Zealand, taking
advantage of Internet technologies to bring NZ products to
the world. Most of our customers are in the US and the UK.
We
are founding members of "Business for Social Responsibility"
and one of our goals is to manage a values-driven business
successfully.
We are in business to make a profit, but also think it is
possible for our community and environment to succeed and
benefit along side of us. We use a " triple bottom line"
to measure our success.
There is no reason to believe why each one of our goals (to
benefit the shareholders, the environment and the community)
has to be achieved at the cost another one of our goals. There
is always more than one stake-holder in business and to us
it just makes sense to consider the customers, community,
environment, shareholders, employees and suppliers. We believe
if you "look after your people" they in turn will
do their best for you. It's a win-win situation. In practice
our Socially Responsible Business means we use a Green Approach
and employ Recycle, Re-use and Reduce environmental practices.
We offer a free Web presence on our site for Kiwi artists
and craftspeople. We are about giving these people whose talents
we admire an opportunity at an international audience.
Many of whom would not otherwise have this opportunity.
We
flagrantly promote New Zealand and our home town, Dunedin
and to show the world a little bit of Kiwi hospitality through
our exceptional customer service.
I
hope that other businesses, both on and off the net take up
the challenge of Business For Social Responsibility, in their
business practices.
You
just can't lose!!
